Rumor has it (non-Geisinger doctor friend) that the root cause was that Geisinger didnt treat their docs very well.Dr. The email system likewise is a good idea but seriously, what doctors have time to respond to them in todays non concierge practices? Also, until rather recently, there has been excessive physician turnover which made it hard to develop trust and long-term relationships. Perhaps they ran into one.I DO have a few complaints about the organization, of which Ill only mention a few: the corporation (and it IS one after all), is suffused with bureaucracy much entirely unneccessary which can frustrate staff and patients alike (example: their listings online - phone numbers and other - are constantly out of date and for a long time, it was simply impossible to get through by phone for patients or other doctors alike. Cant help wondering what the complaining reviewers were bringing to the table, except that there must be a few bad apples and of course, almost everybody has a bad day occasionally. She was competent but it was just too serious not to see an MD.But niceness? Geisinger has that in spades in their employees - almost a miracle considering how overworked they are. Its YOUR body! Some specialties simply arent available in town (not just at Geisinger) at any point in time - most recently: psychiatry, endocrinology, ENT, optometry and perhaps a few others areas I havent needed to know about. Likewise, to get second or even third opinions right in town if one feels misunderstood. Except for some ordinary problems as with any large organization, Ive been quite satisfied.Without exception, Ive found physicians, nurses, schedulers and phone people to be considerate, mannerly and (MOSTLY) well-informed.This last caveat is necessary and quite expectable in a rural area which as a whole IS admittedly medically underserved. ![]() I dont know where the (extremely) negative reviewers are coming from I but theyve moved me to write a lengthy rebuttal.Ive been seeing a Geisinger internist for almost 15 years as well as dealing with miscellaneous other Geisinger specialists.
